Teeth Whitening

Here at Laurel House, we offer two highly effective teeth whitening systems. One we carry out in the practice and the other you do at home.

Suitability For Whitening

Many people are suitable for teeth whitening and our dentists will assess your suitability during a consultation. If you have gum disease or other dental health problems, you may not be suitable initially. The teeth whitening process does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings so it is important to understand that you may need to change these to match the colour of your whitened teeth.

How It Works

Home Process

One of our dentists, will take an impression (mould) of your teeth. Your dentist's technician will then use this to cast a model of your teeth in plaster and make your custom teeth whitening trays from this. Once these trays have been made (usually takes 5-10 days) you use them in combination with professional whitening gel (provided by your dentist) until you are happy with the results.

You use the whitening process during the night, when you are asleep, so the process happens quickly and easily whilst you sleep.

In Practice Process

You will first have a consultation appointment with our Dentists and moulds will be taken to enable custom whitening trays to be made for you to take home.

Your will then complete the whitening process with our Hygienist who has specialised training for the process. You sit comfortably in the chair and a soft, silicone mouthguard will be placed in your mouth to protect your lips and allow you to rest comfortably during the procedure.

They will then protect your gums, cheeks and lips so that they can apply the whitening solution. Then they will activate the lamp which is used to activate the whitening solution. The process takes an hour, split into to 4 fifteen minute sessions.

How much whiter will my teeth look?

This varies from individual to individual, and also depends on the type of whitening system used. Some people respond very well to teeth whitening and have dramatically whiter teeth as a result. People with darker teeth tend to have more dramatic results than those with lighter teeth. Our dentist will be able to advise you on the likely results following a consultation.
